Climate Activator
At Arvid Nordquist, we have been calculating the emissions of our coffee since 2010, and since 2025 we have been certified in accordance with Climate Activator. This certification requires us to actively reduce our emissions every year and offset any remaining emissions through verified climate projects. The work is audited annually by an independent third party. The goal is to accelerate the transition to net-zero emissions in line with the Paris Agreement.
How does the certification work?
We calculate our climate footprint, set annual emission reduction targets, and plan concrete measures to reduce our climate impact. The process follows a clear structure, with regular monitoring and adjustments as needed. Emissions that cannot yet be eliminated are offset through investments in certified climate projects with measurable climate benefits — such as reforestation and agroforestry that comply with international standards like Gold Standard and VCS.
What are the emission reduction targets?
For a product or service to be certified under Climate Activator, its greenhouse gas emissions must be reduced by at least 25% by 2030 compared to a specified baseline year. Our own target is to reduce emissions by 50% by 2030 (baseline year 2014).
Calculations follow the Greenhouse Gas Protocol and cover the full climate impact — including the entire supply chain (scope 1, 2, and 3). After 2030, emissions must continue to decline in line with the Paris Agreement, with the objective of reaching net-zero by 2050 at the latest.
Who audits and performs the certification review?
The auditing and review of Climate Activator certification is conducted by independent third-party certification bodies. These organisations are separate from Anthesis Group (which manages the standard) and are accredited to ensure objectivity and credibility.
Examples of such certification bodies include Ecocert and Preferred by Nature, which have extensive experience in auditing and certification in climate, environmental, and supply chain matters. They conduct annual audits to verify companies’ climate data, emission reductions, offsets, and compliance with the requirements of the Climate Activator standard.
