transport

CO₂e emissions: 6.2%

Transport accounts for a smaller share of coffee’s total climate impact, but it remains an important part of the value chain where we can reduce emissions. Our goal is to halve the climate impact of transport in line with the Paris Agreement. We have made several strategic choices to reduce our carbon footprint.

The journey of coffee from farm to cup is long and involves multiple transport stages: road transport within the growing country, sea freight across the oceans, rail to our warehouses, and finally distribution to stores or restaurants.

Transport from coffee origin countries to Sweden and on to the roastery

Road transport from farm to port: 3.7%
Sea freight from origin to Gävle port: 95%

Rail freight from Gävle to external warehouse in Rosersberg: 1.1%

Road transport from Rosersberg to Arvid Nordquist’s roastery: 0.2%

Sea Freight

We calculate the fuel required for our sea freight and purchase an equivalent amount of renewable fuel. This means covering 100% of our sea transport fuel demand with renewable fuel through the Book & Claim accounting system. The fuel, liquefied biomethane (LBG), is produced from manure in Europe and certified by ISCC*.

*ISCC, International Sustainability and Carbon Certification, is a global certification system focusing on reducing greenhouse gases throughout the value chain, sustainable land use, protection of natural habitats, and social sustainability in raw material production.

Industry Collaborations
Arvid Nordquist is a participant in Fossilfritt Sverige’s Transport Challenge, aiming to exclusively perform and purchase fossil-free domestic transport by 2030 at the latest.

Today, over 80% of Arvid Nordquist’s transport** uses renewable fuels through available solutions. This is the result of long-term partnerships with logistics providers and a clear strategy covering both technology choices and monitoring.
