Sustainability across our value chain – from bean to cup

For more than a decade, we have been committed to reducing the carbon footprint of our coffee business. Since 2014, we have cut our greenhouse gas emissions by 30% – covering every stage from cultivation and production through to the moment you enjoy your cup.

Explore our value chain to discover the steps we are taking to reduce our environmental impact: from responsible sourcing and energy‑efficient production to low‑impact packaging and smarter transport. From bean to cup.

Land

Since 2014, 96.6% of our coffee has been verified as deforestation‑free, meaning no forest has been cleared to grow the coffee. This is a crucial factor in preventing major CO₂ emissions and contributes to protecting biodiversity and ecosystems. Coffee plants that are allowed to grow naturally among other vegetation thrive better and help improve soil health.

Cultivation

All our coffee is certified by either Rainforest Alliance or Fairtrade. In addition, our Selection range is organically grown and certified by the EU Organic Leaf and KRAV. These certifications protect human rights, ensure fair working conditions, and safeguard biodiversity. Since cultivation and processing account for the largest share of our climate impact, there are also stringent requirements to reduce the use of natural resources such as energy and water, combat eutrophication, and preserve biodiversity.

Transport

The journey of coffee from farm to cup is long and involves several modes of transport: road haulage within the country of origin, sea freight across the world’s oceans, rail transport to our warehouses, and finally distribution to shops or restaurants.

THE Roastery

All our coffee has been roasted using biogas since 2017. The roastery is environmentally certified in accordance with ISO 14001. Since 2009, production has been powered entirely by wind‑ and water‑generated renewable energy, certified with the Swedish Society for Nature Conservation’s Bra Miljöval (Good Environmental Choice) ecolabel.

Packaging and Consumption

Our coffee packaging is made from renewable, plant‑based raw material – a biocircular by‑product from the forestry industry. The packaging consists of 95% ISCC‑certified material (International Sustainability and Carbon Certification) and is produced in accordance with the mass balance principle.
